Starting in September 2024, Purple Pineapple is now expanding to offer its services to local schools. Developing various options to allow schools to enrich their curriculum with drama and provide creative options that allow their students to build confidence, reduce anxiety and boost creative thinking.

Tapping into cultural capital with the arts

Raising aspirations, building confidence and understanding the world around you have always been strongly linked to drama, so it is fantastic that schools are looking to expand this offering more than ever.

Drama in schools at its very essence is all about learning through play. It enables children to walk around in someone else's shoes for a moment in time, learn what makes them tick and understand a different point of view. Through theatre, we can explore new ideas and concepts that ignite curiosity, inspire learning and encourage exploration into the world around us. We can take a piece of literature or poem and use it as a stimulus to inspire drama that increases the understanding and love of the written word, we can jump into a point of history and discover what life was really like, or look at real-life scenarios that help children learn resilience, conflict resolution and confidence.

We can work with schools to design a plan to fulfil the needs of their current cohort. Here are a few ways in which our services can enrich your student experience and development.

Reducing anxiety and building confidence - We can build a programme that is designed to help children work through real-life scenarios at their own pace, to help them feel more in control. Not all children will enter the room and feel comfortable engaging or performing. We can work up to this at the child's own pace by simply starting with fun games and building a safe space and friendships, where children can feel comfortable expressing themselves and exploring new ideas.

Improving communication skills - We can look at different methods of communication and develop how children can use these methods for different purposes. Developing presentation skills, storytelling, and conflict resolution skills that will help them in all walks of life.

Building teamwork - Drama groups have an innate knack for bringing together children who wouldn't normally work together and helps them to learn teamwork which develops something they are all proud of.  This not only helps children build their teamwork skills but also fosters new friendships and develops their ability to talk to different types of people.

Discover new interests and skills - We can build a programme that allows children to engage in all aspects of the arts. This could be looking at scriptwriting and directing, set/costume design or technical theatre. This can give children a taste of aspiration in lots of different areas and help them to improve their planning, literacy and scientific brains away from the classroom environment.

Reducing stress - We hope that all children will enjoy their time at school, but some children can struggle more than most. At the very least we hope to provide an activity for children that they will look forward to attending. An environment in which they feel safe to express themselves, which is away from the natural pressures of attainment.

Increase understanding - Drama can support all areas of the curriculum, if there is a particular scheme of work that children are struggling to understand, we can develop this into our programme to help support the learning through play.
